After two longer days, we were excited for today’s short day, only 7.5 kilometers to Palas de Rei.
We took our time, leaving our guesthouse at 8:30, and allowing ourselves a long breakfast before we started walking.
Over breakfast, we met Peter, a man from the UK who walked with us for most of the day as he also had only a short distance to cover. He gave Addie piggyback rides through the woods and shared his walking sticks with her, and chatted with us about the Camino.
It was a pleasant walk, but we were happy it would be a short day. Then, a couple kilometers before Palas de Rei, I realized my booking mistake. We were actually booked about 4 kilometers past Palas de Rei. We were disappointed to have to walk about an hour longer, but it meant 4 kilometers off of tomorrow’s walk, so it evened out. Still, we’d have been on the trail earlier, had we known, and it meant we had to contend with the heat of the day.
We are staying at a cute little guesthouse right on the Camino. There is a large backyard that Addie enjoyed running around in, and a cute puppy that she enjoyed petting.
As we near Santiago, we go back and forth between sadness at the journey ending, and eager anticipation of the journey ending. We don’t want the adventure to end, but we miss home, and we are ready to go back to proper sleep and meals. We miss our kitchen most of all. That said, when we get home, we hope we can keep walking. We are hoping to pack our summer full of camping and hiking.
For this journey, only 63.5 kilometers to go!
I totally feel your frustration at booking in the wrong place (been there) but it’s really nice that the distance isn’t lost, it is merely paying it forward on the day ahead!
Wow 63 kms left ! Must be a great feeling to see the finish line so close now . The trail looked great today and enjoyable.
