Yesterday’s long walk was not without its consequences. The gentle bump bump bump of the stroller was so soothing to Eloise that she slept most of the day and was consequently awake all night. At 3 a.m. she was wide awake, smiling her silly little smile. Sandra and I were not so smiley as we started the day. We were dragging our feet and we started walking about an hour later than planned.
The walk itself was all uphill. Not super steep, but enough of an incline to add to the day’s struggle. We took hardly any photos. We just walked.
At our lunch stop, another family walked in with a stroller. They have two young boys, ages 8 and 3, and are walking from Sarria. We were all excited to see another family. We had lunch with them and Addie enjoyed playing with the other children.
The afternoon was hot. Both girls took a nap in the stroller, and Sandra and I walked as fast as we could to capitalize on that time. We reached Airexe tired and hot and a bit bored of the walk.
From Eirexe, we called our guesthouse and they picked us up. We are staying a few kilometers off the Camino and will be brought back in the morning.
The guesthouse is cute, with an adorable resident donkey. We had homemade Spanish tortilla for dinner, which we shared with the only other guest here, a man from Germany who is walking the Camino backwards to Sarria.
Tomorrow we have a short day, and we are looking forward to the chance to give Addie a bit more free play.
75.1 kilometers to go!
Well that was a long walk just as you had expected. And on very little sleep, kids not sleeping at night is really stressful the next day. You are finding interesting places to stay and to have a donkey there just adds to it. I hope you get sleep tonight as you get closer and closer to what you have been dreaming about.
Days like today make good days feel even better. Hoping for a good night sleep and a much needed rest so everyone can enjoy the next day .
Oh you are champs for doing that on short sleep! Glad you get an easier day mañana.
Donkeys and tortillas, what else does one need😀 Enjoy the last bit of your trip, we are all looking forward to seeing you soon.
